Who Are Candlelighters?
Each year, around 150 children in Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer, a moment that turns lives upside down for the whole family.
Candlelighters exists to ensure no family faces that journey alone. Their mission is to bring light and hope by providing emotional, practical and financial support, alongside investing in vital research to improve outcomes for children.
Their support begins at diagnosis and continues for as long as families need it – even extending beyond treatment and, where necessary, through bereavement.
Supporting Families Across Yorkshire
Candlelighters delivers a wide range of services that make a meaningful difference every day, including:
- Emotional support such as counselling and peer groups
- Practical help including hospital support and accommodation
- Financial grants to ease the burden on families
- Investment in research to improve treatment and survival
With a strong presence in Leeds Children’s Hospital and a dedicated support centre close by, they provide care and comfort exactly where it is needed most.
