For many guests, enjoying food and drink at an event is part of the experience. But for others, allergens can present a serious and sometimes life‑threatening concern. At Headingley Stadium Events, allergen safety is not an afterthought – it is a fundamental part of how we plan, prepare and deliver every event.
With Allergy Awareness Week (20–26 April) shining a light on the importance of understanding and managing allergies in public spaces, we want to reassure our guests that allergen information is treated with the utmost care across our venue.

A Culture of Responsibility, Not Assumption
Food allergies and intolerances affect millions of people in the UK, and reactions can be triggered by even trace amounts of an allergen. That is why assumptions are never acceptable.
Our approach is built on a simple but vital principle: no guest should ever be served a food or beverage that could cause them harm. Every allergen request is taken seriously, clearly communicated and actively managed from the moment it is raised through to service on the day of the event.
Training That Goes Beyond the Basics
All Sodexo Live! colleagues involved in food and beverage delivery at Headingley Stadium complete allergen awareness training, ensuring a strong understanding of:
- The 14 recognised food allergens
- The difference between allergens and intolerances
- The risks of cross‑contact
- The importance of accurate ingredient information and communication
This training is refreshed regularly so that allergen awareness remains front of mind and aligned with best practice. Crucially, allergen safety is not limited to chefs alone – front‑of‑house teams, managers and event staff all play a role in protecting our guests.
Clear Communication at Every Stage
From enquiry to event day, communication is key. Guests are encouraged to share allergen requirements in advance, allowing our culinary and events teams to plan safely and confidently.
On the day, allergen information is supported by:
- Clear internal communication between kitchen and service teams
- Menu and dish-level allergen awareness
- On-site signage prompting guests to speak to a member of the team
This joined‑up approach ensures nothing is missed and that allergen information is acted upon, not just noted.
Designed to Reduce Risk
Behind the scenes, practical measures are in place to reduce the risk of cross‑contact, including controlled preparation processes and careful handling during service. Our teams understand that removing an ingredient is not the same as making a dish safe, and that confidence must be based on certainty, not assumption.
If a request cannot be safely accommodated, we are always honest and transparent. Guest safety will always come before convenience.
Supporting Guests to Feel Confident and Welcome
Living with allergies can bring anxiety, especially in busy event environments. Our aim is to create a setting where guests feel confident, listened to and well cared for, allowing them to focus on enjoying their experience at Headingley.
Allergy Awareness Week provides an important reminder that allergen safety isn’t just about compliance – it’s about care, trust and doing the right thing, every time.
If you have any allergen or dietary requirements for an upcoming event at Headingley Stadium, our team will be happy to discuss them with you in advance.
